Applications
Yttrium is a transition metal with chemical properties similar to lanthanides. It is not found in elemental form but occurs with lanthanide minerals. Yttrium is highly crystalline, moderately stable in air, and possesses the strongest thermodynamic affinity for oxygen among all elements.
It is used in alloys to refine grain structure, improve mechanical strength, enhance workability, increase resistance to high-temperature recrystallization, and boost oxidation resistance. In electronics, yttrium is used in LCD panel production, fluorescent lighting, superconductors, ceramics, and specialty glass.
In medicine, yttrium is applied in artificial joints, prosthetics, and cancer treatments involving radioactive isotopes.
