Chemical Properties:
Cobalt oxide nanoparticles are a mixed-valence compound (Co²⁺ and Co³⁺). They are soluble in nitric acid and readily absorb moisture but do not form water compounds. Above 1200 °C, they decompose into sub-cobalt oxides.
Applications:
-
Electronics & Ceramics: Used in semiconductors, electronic ceramics, temperature and gas sensors.
-
Energy Storage: Lithium-ion battery electrode material and other electrochemical cells.
-
Solar Energy: Acts as a solar energy absorber.
-
Pigments & Colorants: Added to glass and porcelain for coloring.
-
Catalysis: Serves as oxidant and catalyst for organic synthesis, and as a catalyst carrier in chemical industries.
