Titanium Aluminum Carbide (Ti2AlC) belongs to the hexagonal crystal system and combines metallic and ceramic characteristics. It offers the conductivity and heat conduction of metals with the high elastic modulus and mechanical strength of ceramics. Ti2AlC demonstrates good machinability at room temperature, plastic deformation at high temperature, excellent thermal shock resistance, high-temperature stability, oxidation resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance.

MAX phase ceramics, including Ti2AlC and Ti3SiC2, are a class of processable conductive ceramics comprising over sixty ternary carbides or nitrides. M represents the transition metal, A the main group element, and X is carbon or nitrogen. Due to their layered nanostructure, these materials exhibit self-lubrication, high fracture toughness, conductivity, and oxidation resistance.
